HAWKS ROLL TO 83-51 QUARTER FINAL WIN OVER CAMOSUN

FORT MCMURRAY, AB: The Humber Hawks men's basketball team, defending CCAA National champions, got off to a flying start at the 2016 nationals on Thursday afternoon. Humber, the number two seed, knocked off the number seven Camosun Chargers of the PACWEST (British Columbia) by a score of 83-51.

The Hawks will now advance to the Semi Finals on Friday night at 8:00 pm EST, against the number three seed, Holland College of the ACAA (Atlantic).

Both teams got off to nervous starts, and neither were able to score with any consistency. A 4-0 Humber lead almost stood over the first four minutes. Camosun, even at the line, were unable to break through. The Hawks, on a late basket, held a five point lead after the 1st quarter, at 16-11.

The Hawks started to get into the flow in the second quarter, as the offence started to get open looks. The defence continued its fine play, hold Camosun to 13 points and only 24 for the half. With a Baljyot Judge three-pointer at the buzzer, Humber led 37-24.

It was the third quarter where the Hawks put the game out of hand. The Rexdale based club scored often, with many coming via the break. At the end of the third the scoreboard read 58-34 for the Hawks.

The fourth quarter was much as the same, as Humber extended its lead even further, allowing the Hawks coaching staff the ability to use the entire bench. Humber won the quarter 25-17, and the game 83-51.

"It was a very good win", said Hawks head coach Shawn Collins. "We were able to get everyone into the game, and history proves that this is key when you have to play three games in three days at this level."

Humber, as they have all year, placed multiple players in double figures. On this afternoon it was five players, led by three players with 12 points (Tyrone Dickson, Kenny Ejim and Gibson Eduful). Baljyot Judge and Vule Grujic checked in with marks of 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Humber Player of the Game for Humber was Baljyot Judge.
