NINE STRAIGHT WINS AS HAWKS DROP LIONS

By: Natalie Stoberman

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks (12-3, 2nd West) have improved to a nine game winning streak with a challenging 89-81 win over the Lambton Lions (8-5, 5th West). Humber was led by freshman forward Baljyot Judge's (Brampton) 18 points, along with superstar centre Tyrone Dickson's (Scarborough) 15 points and eight rebounds. In addition, the Hawks played disciplined basketball with great ball movement, finishing with 11 more assists than Lambton.

Dickson, a fourth-year power forward, got the Hawks fired up after winning the tip with a strong move to the basket for the and one. Humber's largest lead was 20-6 until the Lions went into overdrive in the fifth minute thanks to back-to-back three's that dampened Humber's drive. The Lions held the Hawks at 25 points while on a 10-0 run and eventually worked their way to within two points of the Hawks. Lambton was breathing down Humber's necks by only trailing 27-23.

Lambton's confidence was through the roof and compiled a handful of game changing and hustle plays to take a 31-30 lead. After a Hawks timeout, Humber fought back to regain control with Dickson taking the reins with four quick points under the basket. Unfortunately Humber couldn't shake the Lions and their breakout 24 point quarter and went into the half trailing Lambton 47-45.

The challenge was set and Humber never backed down in the second half. The Hawks rained down 14 points to retake a 59-49 lead and capped off an 18 point campaign with forward Brayden Gohn (Holland Landing) posterizing his defender with a strong dunk to send the Lions into a timeout. The Hawks pulled together with nine players contributing to the comeback and ten points off the bench to put up a big 26 point quarter for a 71-61 lead at the buzzer.

The Hawks never looked back no matter how close the Lions got in the final ten minutes. Humber put out a total team effort with five players scoring in double digits, including a double-double from Toronto native Gibson Eduful, who finished with 11 points and assists. The Hawks came together when it counted and sent the Lions home with an 89-81 loss.

Up next is the Redeemer Royals (4-10, 8th West) on Feb. 5 and will tip-off at 8 p.m.
