HAWKS & MOUNTAINEERS RENEW RIVALRY IN GOLD GAME

ETOBICOKE, ON: Eighteen regular season games, two playoff games, and forty more minutes is what it will take for the Humber Hawks or the Mohawk Mountaineers to be crowned as the OCAA Provincial Champions.

These two West Division teams met twice during the regular season providing some very good matchups which saw each team win on home court.

In the first semi final the Hawks defeated the Sheridan Bruins 85-75 in yet another chapter of a historic OCAA rivalry which needed overtime.

Tyrone Dickson had a 10 point double double and Ancil Martin led the Hawks in scoring with 18 points.

First team all-star Gibson Eduful led the OCAA in steals and he came up big with five clutch steals Saturday night. CJ Bennett was also big for the Hawks adding 12 points off the bench while hitting some free throws at the end of the game to help ice it.

Humber is coming into this game ranked as the no.7 team in Canada.

In the second semi final game of the night it took triple overtime to decide who would move on. Mohawk would outlast the Lambton Lions 116-115.

Mohawk being the defending OCAA Champions fought all the way to the end and getting some clutch shots from their biggest players lifted them to victory.

Jeff Hunt and Lamar Barr would both finish with double doubles while teammates Kareem Collins and Patrick Iavarone both finished with 24 points or more for Mohawk.

Mohawk comes into the gold medal game ranked no.9 in Canada.

Both of these teams met in last years OCAA finals with Mohawk winning that one by a final score of 84-74.

With both teams making it to the OCAA finals and with Ontario having the extra wild card spot at nationals this year, it means that both Humber and Mohawk will travel to Alberta for the CCAA National Championships.

Last season Humber was at nationals since Mohawk was the host and got automatic entry. The Hawks would eventually go on to win nationals last season on Mohawks home court.

Tip off is at 5 p.m. at Humber College North.
