Athletics Overview

Humber College was founded in 1967. With this exciting news came the Department of Athletics. The administrators within the athletic department pondered possible nicknames for the college athletic teams. It was in that instance that a hawk soared across the valley field that the campus overlooked. It was a natural choice, as the hawk represented the qualities that Humber Athletics would aspire to.  It is powerful, a predator and graceful. The name Humber Hawk not only sounded right, it perfectly embodied both sport and competition.

About Humber

The Humber Hawks compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics as a charter member of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA). Humber fields 20 varsity teams with approximately 250 student-athletes supported by 11 full-time staff on the campus of Humber College in Etobicoke, Ontario.

College sports fans would be hard-pressed to find a program more steeped in tradition than Humber. Since the College began varsity in 1967, the legends associated with the Hawks have passed down through generations of fans.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Humber Department of Athletics is to facilitate and augment the education and growth of its student-athletes through their participation in competitive OCAA and CCAA athletics. Humber is committed to the welfare of its student-athletes and staff and supports an environment that encourages excellence in both athletic and academic performance, diversity and sportsmanship.

Humber College has a long tradition of athletic excellence. Humber varsity teams have won more CCAA national titles than any other Canadian college. The same lofty goals and unflappable determination that permeate our academic spirit also propel Humber’s athletic dominance.

In order to have a broad-based, nationally competitive intercollegiate athletics program for men and women, Humber attempts to recruit the finest student-athletes. It is Humber Athletics' policy to recruit only student-athletes who exhibit both an interest in the academic component of undergraduate life and the potential to succeed in the increasingly competitive academic environment at Humber. An important element of the recruitment message is that Humber offers so much more than a preeminent athletic experience. Humber recognizes that competing at the national level demands a commitment of time and energy from student-athletes not normally required of other students. Consequently, we provide a variety of support services and resources to assist student-athletes with their academic success, personal well-being, individual development, and preparation for future endeavours.
