HAWKS WIN OVERTIME THRILLER 83-80 OVER SETON HILL

ETOBICOKE, Ontario: The Humber Hawks, defending CCAA National Men's Basketball champions, completed their early pre-season by defeating the Seton Hill Griffins by a score of 83-80. The Griffins, a NCAA Division II squad from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, are near the end of a tour that has seen them play a number of Ontario universities and colleges.

The Hawks came out strong and held a 24-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. The seven point lead held as the half with Humber leading 41-34. The tide turned in favour of the visitors, as the Griffins took the third quarter by nine and led 56-54, heading into the fourth. In a frantic finish, Seton Hill went one for two at the line with ten seconds to go, giving Humber the opportunity to win at the buzzer. A long three by Mark Perrin fell short, and the game headed to overtime, with the teams tied 72-72.

Seton Hill looked to have taken over the game in the extra frame, and led by five with less than three minutes to go. Cue the Hawks comeback, as they scored eight unanswered points to take the victory 83-80. Centre Vule Grujic was key down the stretch, scoring all five of his points and grabbing three rebounds in this short span.

Humber was led by Kenny Ejim and his mark on 16 points. Three other Hawks scored in double figures. Mark Perrin poured in 15, while rookie Jalen King had 11 and Ancil Martin with 10. Trevor Blondin of the Griffs led all scorers on the night, with 20. He was supported by Taylor Kameron as he checked in with 18.

The Hawks will now gear up for open tryouts, which will take place soon after the opening day of the Fall Semester.
