PLAYOFF BOUND HAWKS FIGHTING FOR FINAL POST-SEASON PLACEMENT

PLAYOFF BOUND HAWKS FIGHTING FOR FINAL POST-SEASON PLACEMENT

WELLAND, ON: The Humber Hawks men's basketball team are in the playoffs, both by way of being the 2016 OCAA Championship host, and also by having one of the top records in the league. The question remains is to which spot they will end up in, in the West Division standings.

Niagara is in a similar position when it comes to final standings, as they are in a dogfight with Lambton to see who gets to host a playoff crossover game. A loss in the upcoming game against the Hawks may mean they have to travel to play an East Division opponent.

The two teams will meet on Friday night, in the regular season finale for both. The tip is set for 8:00 pm, from the Niagara College Athletic Centre in Welland.

The two teams met earlier in the season on the Hawks home court, with the hometown Humber squad prevailing by a score of 85-76. Gibson Eduful, having his best season ever as a Humber Hawk, scored 29 to lead both teams on the night. Jordon McDonald and Marako Lundy poured in 23 each for the visiting Knights.

Since this game a lot has changed with the Humber line-up. Back are stars Tyrone Dickson and Vule Grujic, and they have made a huge impact. Dickson is averaging 13 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. Grujic has chipped in with almost 10 points per game, in limited minutes.

Even with the changes, Eduful continues to lead Humber in scoring, dropping almost 15 points per game. Niagara's Lundy, mentioned above, leads the Knights with a mark of 18.7 ppg.

The significant difference when reading the stat line is Humber's defence, giving up less than 12 points a match than the host Knights squad.

Both teams will be looking to establish momentum in moving into the play-offs. Trying to determine upcoming opponents, although on both team's minds, is secondary to having a solid mistake and injury free game heading into the post season.
