No. 9 HAWKS DEFEAT CONESTOGA 103-87 IN EXHIBITION ACTION

ETOBICOKE, ON: The no. 9 Humber Hawks faced off against the Conestoga Condors for the first time in 24 years with exhibition action Saturday night at Humber Athletics Centre, where Humber defeated the Condors 103-87.

The first quarter saw the Hawks start off slow, falling behind early to the visiting Condors before taking a slight lead part way through the frame. Both teams would continue to trade buckets for the rest of the quarter with Humber maintaining the lead but unable to build upon it and the Hawks would end the quarter with just a six point lead.

In the second frame the Hawks starting things off with a 7-0 run, finally putting some space between them and Conestoga. Humber was able to use stops on the defensive end throughout the quarter to get out in transition and get themselves easy buckets. They used their improved defensive effort and pace of play to outscore the Condors by ten in the quarter and to lead 57-41 at half.

In the third quarter both teams traded baskets early on as neither was able to establish consistent play for any long stretches. The Condors were able to put together a small run to bring the game back to within ten; however Humber hit back and went up 14 at the end of the quarter despite being outscored by two in the frame.

In the fourth Humber again used their defence and their advantage on the glass to get out in transition which helped the Hawks get easy layups. They were able to stretch the lead out to 20 with only a few minutes left in the quarter, putting the game out of reach for Conestoga.

The top performers for the Hawks were Tyrone Dickson (15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, two steals), who finished with a double-double and Gibson Eduful (15 points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals).

Humber's next regular season game will be against the St. Clair Saints (7-6, 4th West) on Saturday, February 18 in Windsor. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
