HAWKS TO HOST NCAA - D3 CARROLL PIONEERS ON MONDAY

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's basketball team could not pass up the opportunity to play the Carroll University Pioneers of Waukesha, Wisconsin this coming Monday, despite just finishing a grueling three day tournament at the University of Waterloo.

Carroll University is a NCAA – Division III team which competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, and is playing a number of friendlies against Ontario University and College teams.

The Pioneers switched conferences this year, moving on from the Midwest Conference. Led by Head Coach Paul Combs, they had an outstanding season in 2015/16, recording a 15-3 record and advancing to the conference final. St. Norbert, undefeated in league play, knocked of the Pioneers by a tight score of 71-69.

They currently carry a roster of 22 players, nine of which are freshman. Very young across the board, Kyle Keranen (Hartland, Wis) and Joel Heesch (Mauston, Wis) are the only seniors on the squad. But, Keranen is key to the success of the Pioneers this year, just as he was this past season. He led the team in almost every category, including minutes played (33.6 pg) and points (13.9 conference and 14.6 overall).

The Hawks, 2016 OCAA Provincial champions and CCAA National silver medalists, return a number of decorated players. Tyrone Dickson (Scarborough, ON), Gibson Eduful (Brampton, ON) and Ancil Martin (Scarborough, ON), are all in their fifth and final year and were key members in Humber's national champion ship win in 2015.

As mentioned above, the Hawks are currently in the middle of a vigorous pre-season schedule, in preparation for their regular season opener on Wednesday, October 26. The Hawks, as well, have a roster littered with freshman, with seven. Cham Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) and Endri Roshi (Tirana, Albania) are a couple of names of note, and should make an impact all season.

The tip is scheduled for 3:00 pm, from the Humber Athletic Centre. Admission is free.
