DEFENDING CHAMPS WILL BEGIN SUMMER LEAGUE AGAINST CSU

ETOBICOKE, ON:  The defending provincial champions will begin the 2016-17 basketball season with a summer league game against the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers on August 9, with tip-off scheduled for 2:00pm.

Charleston Southern participates in Division I of the NCAA as a member of the Big South Conference and is led by head coach Barclay Radebaugh, who is in his 11th year.  Over the last four seasons, the Buccaneers have won two conference regular season championships and have made two NIT appearances in that time.

"We are excited for our student-athletes to get the opportunity to play high-level basketball before our regular season begins," said interim head coach Patrick Au.  "This is a great opportunity for the college and provides access and exposure to the excellence that is on Humber's campus."

Regarded as one of the top men's basketball programs in the country, Humber is coming off their 14th provincial title. The Hawks spent the majority of last season ranked No.2 in the national polls, winning 18 games before falling to NAIT in the national championship game.

Interim head coach Patrick Au has eight returning student-athletes from last season and the Hawks are poised to make a run for a CCAA all-time best seventh national championship.  The returning players for the Hawks are:

Gibson Eduful
Nikyle Williams-McIntosh
C.J. Bennett
Baljyot Judge
Tyrone Dickson
Jordan Rose
Ancil Martin
Curwin Elvis

The CSU Buccaneers will begin their northern tour with a game against the University of Windsor on August 7, followed by their game against Humber on August 9 and concludes the following day against the University of Toronto.  CSU returns five players from last season and is led by All-Big South Freshman team member Armel Potter.

Affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, CSU is a Christian university that is nationally recognized for integrating faith in learning, leading and serving.  At the conclusion of each game, the Buccaneers will be dedicating some time to mission work and sharing the Gospel with Toronto area residents.
