HAWKS FORWARD SIGNS CONTRACT WITH KW TITANS

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- Humber Hawks superstar Tyrone Dickson is continuing his success on the hardwood after he recently signed his first professional basketball contract.

Continuing to move forward with his career, Dickson signed a contract to play in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) for the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans.

Tyrone Dickson played five seasons for Humber from 2012 to 2017 and played in 72 regular season games for the Hawks.  The six-foot-six forward helped Humber win the 2015 national championship while also claiming four consecutive OCAA medals.  Dickson concluded his Humber career first all-time in blocks and rebounds and third all-time in scoring.

Despite chasing his basketball dreams, Dickson is still enrolled at Humber College, attending class in between practice and games.

"This is a great accomplishment for Tyrone," said men's basketball head coach Patrick Au.  "While pursuing his professional playing career, he has also made it a priority to take care of his remaining classes so he can graduate from Humber."

The two-time OCAA defensive player of the year was offered a chance to turn pro after an exhibition game against Conestoga, where he finished with a 15-point 10-rebound double-double in only 22 minutes of action.

"Everything happened at the right time," said Dickson.  "After the game, Conestoga's coach asked me if I was ever looking to play professionally and if so, he would contact me at the conclusion of the season.  When the season was over, I discussed the move with my coaches and family and decided it would be a great experience."

Dickson took the OCAA by storm in 2012, scoring a career-high 243 points en route to winning the conference rookie of the year award.

"Tyrone was an integral part of our team, not only was he our defensive rock on the floor but a tremendous leader in the locker room," added Coach Au.  "In his five years [at Humber], Tyrone encompassed what it is to be a Hawk. I have no doubt that the skills that he has and the work ethic that he possesses will translate to the pro level."

Dickson made his NBLC debut on March 12 at The Aud against the Niagara River Lions and has already displayed his defensive dominance despite playing limited minutes.  As one of the only CCAA athletes to ever play in the league, Dickson has 12 blocks in seven games, the fourth-highest total on the team.

Dickson and the Titans (13-17, 3rd Central) return to NBLC action on Saturday, April 1 against the Niagara River Lions (9-20, 5th Central) with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
