PATRICK AU NAMED INTERIM MEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH
ETOBICOKE, ON: Humber College is proud to announce that Patrick Au has been named the interim Hawks' Men's Head Basketball Coach. Au takes over the reins of the program after spending the last six seasons as the lead assistant coach for Shawn Collins, who announced he was stepping away for personal reasons.
"It is exciting and a great honour to be given the responsibility of leading the men's basketball program at Humber," said Coach Au. "Not only is the basketball program rich with tradition and excellence but so is the Athletic Department and the school itself. I will do my best to uphold the level of excellence that Coach Katz established and that Coach Glenn and Coach Collins continued in their time here."
While Humber may be Au's first journey as an OCAA head coach, there are few first-time head coaches that bring the kind of extensive resume and experience to the table that Au possesses. As an assistant coach with the Hawks, he helped Humber win five provincial medals and capture their first national championship after ending a 14-year drought.
Au came to Humber after spending ten years coaching the Sacred Heart Catholic High School basketball team, where he helped to build a winning program. Prior to that, Au was coaching for the JDP Central East of the Ontario Basketball Association and at the Bathurst Jewish Community Centre.
Au has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University as well as a Bachelor of Education Degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 2002. Au will now become the 11th head coach in men's basketball history, taking over a program that finished second at the CCAA championships last season.
"Patrick has been an outstanding lead assistant with our program, he understands what it takes to be successful at this level and has the trust of his players," said Director of Athletics Ray Chateau. "We're fortunate to have an individual of his calibre to step in and continue the proud tradition of men's basketball at Humber College."
