HAWKS JAMES DEPOE HELPS CANADA CAPTURE FIBA U19 WORLD BASKETBALL CROWN

CAIRO, Egypt: James DePoe, a staff member and staple with the Humber Hawks men's basketball program over the past ten-plus years, once again joined Canada Basketball this past week and was a key part of the group that won Canada's first-ever world basketball title on any level.

Canada knocked of Italy 79-60 in the gold medal game at the Nike FIBA U19 World Championships.

In lieu of repeating what has been written about this historic win, allow me to let James put his journey and championship thoughts down in his own words:

"This is my 8th summer with Canada Basketball, my 4th World Championship event, I've seen so much of the world and appreciate every moment I've experienced thus far.  Today we made history, we are the first...EVER.  I can't begin to tell you all how proud I am of this group, what a special moment and feeling.  Thank you to everyone for your support of me going off all over the world all the time.  Work hours missed, family events I was absent for, it is all a part of what I am feeling right now.  Oh Canada indeed!!!

This was a complete team effort to win a World Championship, from start to finish.  It is still sinking in, comes in waves of emotion as I sit and reflect and details from this experience come back to me.  I am very honoured and humbled by the positive vibes we are receiving now that we are back home in Canada."

Congratulations James – you have made all "Hawk Family" very proud!
