ETOBICOKE, ONT -- With a 12-point night, Humber's Tyrone Dickson (Scarborough) moved up into sole possession of no. 3 on the Hawks all-time points list with beating a 34-year-old record previously held by Clyde Walters.
The no. 10 CCAA-ranked Humber Hawks men's basketball team (8-2, 2nd West) used a good defensive effort to defeat the Redeemer Royals (3-5, 7th West) by a score of 87-61 to continue their seven-game winning streak which started before the holiday break.
With some hot shooting and good defence the Hawks took control of the game taking the lead from the opening tip-off to the end of the game.
The Hawks had their hands full when it came to Redeemer. Not only do the Royals play the Hawks to some close games but Redeemer has the OCAA's leading scorer, Rayvon Higdon (Rochester, NY) on their roster. He is averaging 28.6 points-per-game this season.
Higdon hit some clutch shots for his side early on in the game and looked like that trend was going to continue but the Hawks defence stepped up and slowed down his play, which put the Royals offence in a bad spot.
Higdon would finish with a game-high 21 points and six rebounds.
With the Royals struggling to put up points at one end, the Hawks did a good job spreading the ball out at the other end, making it difficult for Redeemer to defend. It was an all-around team effort offensively for the Hawks with 11 of 14 players putting points on the board and four of them reaching double-digits.
Dickson led his teammates with 12 points and 15 rebounds for his sixth double-double this season. Gibson Eduful (Brampton) finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds.
Baljyot Judge (Toronto) and Ancil Martin (Scarborough) also finished the night with double-digits.
Like Dickson, Eduful climbed up the Humber all-time list. With his 12-points he finished the game tied for fourth with Clyde Walters at 763, the record Dickson beat earlier in the night.
The Hawks will now have just over a week off until they have to travel to London for their next game against the Fanshawe Falcons. Tip-off is at 7 pm.
