THE STORYLINE

The No. 1 Humber (19-0) women's basketball team is making its fifth straight appearance in the OCAA final four and will meet the Fanshawe Falcons (14-6) Friday evening in the provincial semi-final.

Humber earned the berth with a 68-50 win over St. Clair on Thursday, while Fanshawe beat Algonquin in the other quarter-final game.

LAST TIME OUT vs FANSHAWE

Last season, these two programs met in the semi-finals in Welland, with the Hawks advancing to the title game after a 71-49 win.  Atissa Cronk was named player of the game for Humber after finishing with a game-high 21 points and four rebounds.

SCOUTING FANSHAWE

  • Mikhaila Wright finished with a team-high 22 points as Fanshawe cruised by Algonquin in the quarter-finals. 
  • The Falcons love to distribute the ball and are ranked second in the conference, averaging 17.6 assists per game.
  • In postseason play, the Hawks hold a slight 5-4 edge in the all-time series, dating back to the provincial title game in 1992.
  • Lara Vere and Natalie Warren were named OCAA second-team all-stars.
  • On January 21, these two programs met in London, where the Falcons gave Humber its toughest test of the year.  Fanshawe outscored Humber 21-16 in the final frame but it wasn't enough as the Hawks escaped with a 59-56 win.

STREAKING

  • The Hawks have won an OCAA record 43 consecutive CCAA regular and postseason games.
  • Humber has also won 56 consecutive OCAA regular and postseason games, the second longest streak in conference history.  The Algonquin Thunder won 67 consecutive OCAA games from November 5, 2011 until January 15, 2015.

TRENDING

  • The Hawks became the first program to score 1,500 points in OCAA history.
  • Humber outscored its opponents by an average of 34.2 ppg, best in the OCAA.

RECORD SETTING

  • All-Canadian Ceejay Nofuente set new league records for steals (101) and assists (124).
  • Nofuente also became Humber's single-season scoring champion (394) and all-time leading scorer (905) this season.
  • Chioma Oriuwa ends her career as Humber's all-time leading rebounder with 521.
  • Aleena Domingo tied her career-high with 240 points and sits second all-time on Humber's career scoring list (806).

ALL-ONTARIO

At the annual athletics banquet, Ceejay Nofuente became the first Humber Hawk to win consecutive OCAA Player of the Year Awards.  Head coach Ajay Sharma was named West Division Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.

POLL POSITION

After winning the first national championship in OCAA history, the Hawks have been the top-ranked program in the country all season long.

ON THE SIDELINES

Head coach Ajay Sharma now has 111 wins at the helm of the women's basketball program and remains 20 wins behind Denise Perrier for most all-time.
