BRAMPTON, Ont – The offensive struggles for the no. 1 Humber Hawks (14-0, 1st West) ended Saturday afternoon with an 89-54 win over the Sheridan Bruins (2-13, 8th West). After failing to score 75 points or more in three consecutive contests, the OCAA's top-ranked offence returned to form in the win.
Led by All-Canadian Ceejay Nofuente, the Hawks controlled the game from the opening tip and took a 22-point lead into half-time. Nofuente narrowly missed her second triple-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 28 points, nine steals, seven assists and four rebounds. With her seventh point of the game, the fourth-year point guard became the first player in Humber women's basketball history to score 800 career points.
14 Humber Hawks played in the game for head coach Ajay Sharma, with 11 scoring at least four points. Aleena Domingo and Leticia Lopez both finished with double-digits in points, recording 15 and 10, respectively. Domingo hit another career milestone this season, as she surpassed 750 points for her career.
Chioma Oriuwa, Humber's all-time leading rebounder, finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and is now 11 away from 500 for her career.
Humber's stifling defence was once again on display, as the Hawks forced 26 Sheridan turnovers and finished with a 17 total steals.
The Hawks wrap up their home schedule next weekend when the Cambrian Golden Shield (1-15, 10th West) visit the Humber Athletic Centre for a weekend doubleheader. Both games will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
