AMBER BECHARD: REPORTING FROM BARCELONA, SPAIN

Hola!

I cannot believe it has already been over a week since we have been home from Spain. The trip just flew by so quickly. I have been sitting in all my classes this week wishing I was back in Barcelona with my team. It feels like it was just yesterday when I would have morning practice in an extremely hot but beautiful facility and having the rest of my day consistently filled with adventures.

Here are my Barcelona trip highlights!

I would have to say my favourite group tour we did together was when we went to Basilica De La Sagrada Familia. Gaudi truly created a monumental masterpiece that I believe to be the most beautiful church I have ever seen. All his work had so many little details and when I looked closely I was able to put together images that made his creations even more memorable. Overall every group tour was a great learning experience and also gave us the opportunity to be together as a team. I personally think that these tours gave us the opportunity to truly see Barcelona for how beautiful it really is.

Now let's not forget about the amazing shopping and food in Spain! I spent almost every evening looking forward to dinner! My favourite restaurant I went to (twice) was La Barca del Salamanca. This restaurant had a beautiful view of the port and the food was fantastic! It was my first time trying paella and I have no regrets! The shopping in Barcelona is amazing. I was able to explore the streets of Spain and enjoy spending my Euros on nice clothing. Walking through La Rambla was also another cool experience. I really enjoyed tasting all the tapas (fresh fruits and meats) from the local markets.

Beach days are always great days but when you get to spend them with your team it always turns out to be a blast. We had a couple afternoons off where we all headed to the beach to soak up some sun and swim in the ocean. Some of us tried our best to swim out as far as we could and managed to see a jellyfish that scared us enough to turn back. I was able to enjoy a nice massage on the beach that was very relaxing and much needed. The beach was truly amazing with crystal clear water and the temperature always being just right.

We went to Barcelona to represent Humber and compete against talented teams. I think that we did a great job representing our Humber Hawk family as well as winning 2 of the 3 games we played in Spain. I enjoyed handing out small Humber gifts to our opponents as well as taking group pictures at the end of each game. I cannot thank Humber Athletics enough for giving us such an unbelievable opportunity to compete in Spain as well as travel with such an amazing group of "Unforgettables"! Now that I am home I am looking forward to my final season with Humber basketball and I cannot wait for what the future holds for our team in 2016-2017!
