WINDSOR, Ont – A quick start helped Humber run away from the St. Clair Saints.
The No. 1 Hawks scored 22 first quarter points on the way to an 78-46 victory over the Saints Saturday afternoon at the St. Clair Sportsplex.
Despite the fast start, the Hawks shot a season-low 29.7 per cent from the floor in the first half in a game Humber never trailed.
All-Canadian Ceejay Nofuente finished with a game-high 27 points, Aleena Domingo had 18, and Jill Semple and Amber Bechard each scored 10. The Hawks grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to score 17 second-chance points.
Humber's top ranked defence once again proved to be too much for the Saints, as they were held to under 50 points for only the second time this season. St. Clair's top scorer and former player of the year Shannon Kennedy was held to 11 points on 4-12 shooting.
Aleah Marton had 10 points for the Saints, who had more turnovers (27) than field goals (16).
Humber extended their OCAA record win streak to 41 consecutive CCAA regular and postseason games.
Ceejay Nofuente is four points away from passing Donna Listone's single season scoring record, while Aleena Domingo remains seven points away from becoming the second member of Humber's 800-point club.
The Hawks have less than 24 hours before they wrap up the regular season on Sunday, February 18 against the Lambton Lions (5-12, 7th West). The Hawks will be looking to finish with back-to-back perfect regular seasons for the first time in 18 years. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm and will be streamed live courtesy of Lambton's athletic department.
