No.1 HAWKS SCORE SEASON-HIGH 102 POINTS IN WIN OVER CAMBRIAN

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The no.1 Humber Hawks women's basketball team (15-0, 1st West) tipped off their weekend doubleheader with the Cambrian Golden Shield (1-16, 10th West) Saturday evening at the Humber Athletic Centre, winning the game by a score of 102-24.

Humber set the tone for this one early in the first quarter jumping out to a quick lead with a 7-0 run before Cambrian finally got their first bucket almost three minutes into the game. The defence for the Hawks would continue throughout the quarter holding the Golden Shield to just five points. Ceejay Nofuente paced the offence in the first, connecting on three of her first four three-point attempts in the quarter and adding four assists and two boards as well. Humber finished the frame on an 18-0 run and lead 28-5 after the first.

The second quarter would go down much like the first with the Hawks clamping down even further on the defensive end, not allowing a field goal for the entire quarter.  Cambrian's only points came from made free-throws.  Jill Semple led Humber in scoring in the second, scoring the first nine points for the team and finishing with 11 in the quarter. The Hawks would finish the quarter on another big run scoring the final 14 points and would lead Cambrian 51-7 at half.

In the third quarter the Hawks would catch fire from deep, combining for five threes in the quarter. Leticia Lopez put up nine of her 13 points in the quarter all coming via the three. Humber would again stifle the Golden Shield offence in the frame holding them to eight points. The Hawks would again finish the quarter strong and had already put up 79 points going into the fourth.

In the final frame Humber would continue to display their great play on both sides of the ball allowing just nine points while putting up 23 of their own. With just over a minute to play in the game Jennah Rampersaud would hit a three putting the Hawks at 102 points, marking the first time this season they have eclipsed the century mark.

The Hawks performers of the game were Jill Semple (21 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, two blocks), Leticia Lopez (13 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three blocks), and Ceejay Nofuente (12 points, six rebounds, 10 assists, one block, four steals), all of whom finished with double-doubles in the game. A total of 12 Hawks played in this game, with each of them recording at least three points before the final buzzer.

Humber will take on Cambrian again in their second game of this weekend doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Humber Athletics Centre. Tip off for the game is set for noon and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
