No.1 HAWKS SET TO HOST NIAGARA KNIGHTS ON #BellLetsTalk DAY

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The no. 1 Humber Hawks women's basketball team (11-0, 1st West) return to the court Wednesday evening as the Niagara Knights (7-4, 5th West) visit the Humber Athletic Centre.

LAST TIME OUT vs NIAGARA

In their first meeting this season, the Hawks came away with an impressive 75-57 win over Niagara at the Welland Athletic Centre.  Humber had four student-athletes finish with at least 10 points, including Ceejay Nofuente's (Toronto) game-high 19 points.   OCAA all-star Courtney McPherson finished with an 18-point 10-rebound double double for the Knights.

  • Humber's three-point win at Fanshawe over the weekend was their lowest margin of victory this season.
  • The Hawks are currently second in the OCAA in scoring, averaging 78.3 points-per-game.  
  • Humber has knocked in five-plus threes in all 11 games this season.

  • Overall the Hawks have won 48 consecutive OCAA regular and postseason games.

SCOUTING NIAGARA

  • The Knights are currently leading the OCAA in scoring, averaging 79.2 points-per-game while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor.
  • Led by first-year guard Xuan Nguyen-Marshall, Niagara is shooting a league best 31.3 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Offensively, the Knights are led by former OCAA rookie of the year Courtney McPherson, who is 11th in the league averaging 14.4 ppg.
  • Including McPherson, Niagara offers a balanced attack on offence, as Brooke-Lyn Murdoch, Mary Ingribelli, and Alyssa McCabe all average 10-plus ppg. 
  • The Knights are searching for their first OCAA medal since winning silver during the 2002-03 season.
  • At home against Niagara, the Hawks are 16-3, dating back to their first meeting in at the Humber Athletic Centre in 1980.
  • All-time, the Hawks are 30-9 against the Knights, including seven consecutive regular season wins.

HAWKS HISTORY

  • On January 11th, Ceejay Nofuente had a game to remember, breaking two OCAA single game records.  The third-year point guard finished with 55 points and hit 13 three pointers.
  • Head coach Ajay Sharma currently became the third women's coach to surpass 100 career wins and currently sits at 103 wins 21 losses.
  • The all-time leading scorers in program history continues to change as Hawks superstars Ceejay Nofuente and Aleena Domingo continue to move up the rankings. Nofuente now sits 13 points away from becoming Humber's all-time leading scorer.
