SATURDAY SHOWDOWN WITH FANSHAWE FOR No.1 HAWKS

LONDON, Ont. – The no. 1 Humber Hawks women's basketball team (10-0, 1st West) return to the court Saturday evening as they visit the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre to wrap up their regular season series with the Fanshawe Falcons (7-3, 3rd West).

LAST TIME OUT vs FANSHAWE

In the 2016-17 season opener, these two teams met at the Humber Athletic Centre and the Hawks came away with a 63-56 victory.  In the second quarter, the Hawks held Fanshawe to a season-low six points and All-Canadian Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) finished two steals and one assist away from a quadruple-double.  Veteran forward Aleena Domingo (Toronto) returned to the lineup after missing the previous season due to injury and finished with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Second-year guard Felicia Velasquez (Brampton) rejoined Humber's lineup last game and finished with a game-high six assists.
  • Currently lead the OCAA in scoring, averaging 80.2 points-per-game.  The league's number one offence is currently on pace to approach the OCAA season record of 1,450 points, a mark established by last year's team.
  • Knocked in five-plus threes in all ten games this season.
  • Humber has won 20 consecutive OCAA road games, with their last loss coming on the road at St. Clair in November 2014.

SCOUTING FANSHAWE

  • The Falcons enter this contest on a two-game winning streak, with road wins over Niagara (6-4, 5th West) and Sheridan (2-9, 8th West).
  • Fanshawe is led by second-year guard Mikhaila Wright, who is averaging 13.5 points-per-game.
  • The Falcons have the most OCAA Championships (11), with their last coming in 2002-03.  
  • On the road at Fanshawe, the Hawks are 17-6, dating back to their first meeting in 1979.
  • All-time, the Hawks are 34-14 against Fanshawe, including seven consecutive regular season wins.
  • The Falcons won a bronze medal last season after falling to Humber 71-49 in the OCAA Championship Semi-Final game.  Atissa Cronk (Kingston) had a game-high 21 points for Humber.

HAWKS HISTORY

  • On January 11th, Ceejay Nofuente had a game to remember, breaking two OCAA single game records.  The third-year point guard finished with 55 points and hit 13 three pointers.
  • Head coach Ajay Sharma currently became the third women's coach to surpass 100 career wins and currently sits at 102 wins 21 losses.
  • The all-time leading scorers in program history continues to change as Hawks superstars Ceejay Nofuente and Aleena Domingo continue to move up the rankings. Nofuente now sits 30 points away from becoming Humber's all-time leading scorer.
