No. 1 HUMBER TOPS REDEEMER 77-56

ANCASTER, Ont – The no. 1 Humber women's basketball team (8-0, 1st West) extended their OCAA win streak to a program best 20 road games with a 77-56 win on the road against the Redeemer Royals (4-4, 6th West).  Despite early foul trouble, Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) finished with a game-high 17 points, while adding five assists and eight steals.

Fourth-year forward Aleena Domingo (Toronto) grabbed a regular season career-high 18 rebounds and scored 13 points, finishing with her second double-double of the season.  Domingo's all-time best for rebounds came in a playoff game against Sheridan back in 2014, where she finished with 20.

Three other Hawks finished with double-digits in scoring, representing the second time this season Humber has had five players score 10-plus points in a game.  Leticia Lopez (Toronto), Jill Semple (Etobicoke), and Chioma Oriuwa (Brampton) finished with 14, 11, and 11 points, respectively.

After defeating no. 8 Mohawk earlier in the week, the Royals came into the game looking for another upset.  However, after holding the Royals to a season-low nine points in the second quarter, the Hawks went into half leading 44-24.

The second-half began with player of the year Ceejay Nofuente picking up two quick fouls and having to sit for the entire third quarter.  The Hawks' offence continued to stay hot in her absence, as Leticia Lopez ran the point.  Lopez, shooting 41 percent from three-point range on the season, continued her hot shooting and has recorded six straight games with at least 10 points.

The Hawks cruised to the 77-56 victory, earning head coach Ajay Sharma his 100th career win.  Coach Sharma became the third head coach to reach the 100-win milestone, joining legendary Hawks coach Jim Henderson and Denise Perrier.

Amber Bechard (Tecumseh) continued her outstanding defensive season, holding 2015-16 West Division scoring champion Jesseca Brown to 3-11 shooting, her lowest total of the season.

The Hawks will now close out the first half of the season Wednesday night when no. 8 Mohawk comes to the Humber Athletic Centre.  Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 6pm and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
