HAWKS SEASON ENDS WITH BRONZE MEDAL IN HAND AFTER MARATHON

LONDON, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball team and the host Fanshawe Falcons went eleven innings, with the Falcons winning 8-5 and advancing to the Gold Medal round. By way of the loss in the Bronze Medal Game, the Hawks were eliminated and placed third in the 2015 OCAA Championships.

This marathon featured an incredible amount of swings along the way. The Falcons went up 4-0 after two innings, aided by a number of walks. Humber responded with consecutive innings of 2 and 3 runs, respectively.

Brandon Catena, who replaced Hawk starter Jeff Gibbs was solid in his three-plus innings of work. He did have to work out of a couple of jams, but did not allow a run.

The turning point over the next six innings was Hawk reliever Doug Skillicorn. He did allow the Falcons to tie, a run crossing the plate by way of a wild pitch, but he was dominate until the eleventh.

But, prior to the final inning, Humber had runners in scoring position in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. They were unable to push across the winner.

By way of a mish mash of at-bats, which included and error and a walk, the Fanshawe club loaded the bases with one out. A grounder to the Hawk third baseman was relayed to the catcher, but the umpire ruled the catcher had lost contact with home plate. A double, scoring two more, occurred after this tie breaking run.

With Fanshawe up 8-5, the Hawks were unable to respond, and were eliminated.

This is the second medal for the Hawks in the three years of OCAA Baseball, both bronze.

Keegan Murphy was selected as the Humber Player of the Game, while pitcher Doug Skillicorn was chosen as a tournament All Star.
