HAWKS BASEBALL ANNOUNCE STAR STUDDED RECRUITING CLASS

The Men's Baseball team, coming off a 12-6 campaign that saw them post a plus-68 run differential, announced a star studded 2015 recruit class on Wednesday morning. The ten newcomers are expected to vault Humber into contention for the programs first OCAA title after a couple of near misses over the last few seasons.

Jeff Gibbs is a right handed pitcher that comes to Humber College having spent time playing professionally with both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates.  He was drafted in the 48th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009 and again in the 9th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012.  He signed with the Diamondbacks after playing collegiately with the University of Maine.  At Maine, Gibbs anchored the pitching staff and was a team captain his junior season.  He was twice named to the America East All-Conference Second Team.  Gibbs has also represented Canada as a member of the Junior National Team.  He will be studying Fitness & Health Promotion at Humber.

Cameron Gray is a right handed pitcher who brings an impressive resume to Humber College.  A 49th round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, Gray spent time at two powerhouse Junior Colleges: Chipola College in Florida and Connors State College in Oklahoma.  He has also played for the Canadian Junior National Team.   He will be entering the Paralegal program beginning in September.

Blake Kauer is a 6'0", 190 pound catcher that comes to Humber via Rose State Junior College in Oklahoma.  He brings with him the reputation of being a defensive catcher who can be a game changer behind the plate.  Humber's track record of academic and athletic success were the deciding factors in Kauer committing to Humber and enrolling in the Community and Justice Services diploma program.

Michael Cecchetto is a 5'11", 230 pound catcher from Toronto, ON.  He arrives at Humber following a 2015 Championship with Monsignor Johnson High School and summer season with the West Toronto Wildcats club program.  At Monsignor Johnson, he was named Team MVP as a senior in 2015.  He will be working on a diploma in Home Renovation beginning this fall.

Brendan Lyons is a 6'3", 200 pound two way player that comes to Humber after spending time at NJCAA Division One Kansas City Community College.  Prior to KCC, Lyons was a standout with the Etobicoke Rangers club program.  He brings an edge to the diamond from his time as a Junior 'B' hockey player.  He will be looked upon to contribute on both the mound and in the field this season.  His decision to become a Hawk came down to a combination of academics and athletics; he has enrolled in the Business Program.

Len Wood is an outfielder/first baseman who returns to Humber after a year away.  In 2013, Wood was a dependable two-way player who posted impressive numbers.  He will be relied upon as a team leader and veteran presence in the clubhouse.   Wood will be enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Program.

Matt Stoddart is a 5'10", 195 pound pitcher from the Mississauga North Tigers club program.  A bulldog on the mound and staff leader for the Tigers, Stoddart will bring the type of mentality that the Hawks coaching staff looks for in a recruit. He will be pursuing a degree in Police Foundations

Andrew Lopez is a 6'6" starting pitcher from Collingwood who comes to Humber after having spent time at Erie Community College in New York.  Lopez's decision to become a Hawk came down to the combination of the strength of the program and facilities available.

Kenneth Hahnfeld, a 6'2" outfielder, played at Christ the King High School and for the Etobicoke Rangers club program.   He has the power potential to hit in the middle of the lineup for the Hawks and provide offensive production.  Hahnfeld is enrolled in the Police Foundations Program.

Kolten Kudrinko heads to Humber after winning 2014 Pitcher of the Year with the 16U AAA Ottawa Knights club program. The combination of the strong baseball program and Journalism offered at Humber persuaded him to become a Hawk.

The Hawks open the preseason this Sunday against the Ryerson Rams at Connorvale Park.  They hit the field for their regular season opener with a doubleheader on the road at George Brown on Friday, September 11th.
