HAWKS DROP TWO BUT STILL SECURE HOME PLAY-OFF GAME

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball team, in need of a split with Durham to secure second place and a home play-off game, lost both ends of the season ending doubleheader at home to the Durham Lords but still grabbed that valued home game as Fanshawe dropped a game to Seneca.

Humber was ahead in both games early, but saw those leads disappear in much different fashions, in dropping game one 5-4 and the nightcap 2-1.

With the losses the Hawks record drops to 12-8 to finish the regular season, and finished in a tie with Fanshawe. Humber will take second, and the home game to open the 2015 OCAA Provincial Championship against the host Falcons.

Game 1 was all about the comeback, as the Lords rallied from 4-0 and an out with nobody on in the seventh. Jeff Gibbs was brilliant most of the way, but got in trouble with walks in the last inning. Sean Mattson hit a massive 427 foot three run home run in the first, but the Hawks could not tack on from there. Lee Masbough took the loss in relief.

Game 2 saw the Hawks run out into the lead early, by way of a Len Wood home run, but that was it offensively. James Byrnes, who took the loss, was brilliant but a pass ball after a strikeout plated the winning run for the visitors.

The Hawks will now play this coming Thursday, in the opening round of the Provincial Championships in London on Friday at Labatt Park. Fanshawe, as mentioned above is the opponent, but a start time has not been announced.
