HAWKS HAVE EARLY NIGHT WITH 13-3 MERCY WIN

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball team, playing for the second time in twenty four hours, sent everyone home after four and a half innings as they defeated the George Brown Huskies 13-3.

With the win, the Hawks season record improves to 9-6 and now are tied with Fanshawe for second in the league. The Huskies drop to 1-11 on the season.

Over the first two innings it looked like the visiting George Brown squad were about to score, but left four men on base. The Hawks were the ones to break through, as Sean Mattson had one of his four rbi's on the night in the first to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Humber pushed three more across in the third, once again aided by Mattson and his two-run single.

The third provided some stellar defence by the Hawks, led by Matt Stoddart and his diving grab and throw out of George Brown's Dane Gordon. In this stretch, Stoddart had a number of defensive assists.

The bottom of the fourth is when the game got out of hand in favour of the home side. Freshman Stoddart led off the inning with a single, one of his two hits in the fourth frame, and the Hawks went on to bat around and score nine in the inning.

With the score 13-0, the coaching staff made wholesale changes. James Byrnes, who shut out the Huskies left in favour of Brandon Costa. Six other Hawks got into the game, most for defensive purposes in the fifth.

Costa finished the game, but not before he gave up three earned runs.

There were many huge performances on the night;

Steven Andropoulos – 2 for 2, walk, 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases
Sean Mattson – 1 for q, 4 rbi's
Matt Stoddart -2 for 3, 2 runs scored, 2 rbi's
James Byrnes – win, 4 innings pitched, 2 hits

Matt Stoddart, with his best game as a Hawk, was selected as the Hawk Nation Player of the Game.
