HAWKS RESPOND WITH WIN TO ADVANCE TO OCAA SEMI FINALS

LONDON, ON: The Humber Hawks defeated the Durham Lords 10-2 in the afternoon elimination game, and now advance to the Bronze Medal game on Saturday, with the winner moving on to the Gold Medal game. Humber lost the first game by a score of 5-3 to the host Fanshawe Falcons amid swirling allegations and questionable calls that contributed to the outcome.

Beyond the drama surrounding the first game, it was a sloppy affair by both teams, with eleven errors in total. It was a game where the Falcons capitalized with the bases loaded in the second, while the Hawks were unable to push anyone across with a similar situation. Each team tacked on, but the Hawks were never able to get even. Humber did have runners on base in the seventh, but a bizarre play ended up in a double play to end the game.

The second game looked like game one after the first inning, as the Hawks allowed the Lords to score two runs by way of an error. Humber did respond with three in the bottom, it too aided by an error.

The Hawks pushed across three more in the second to stretch the score to 6-2, but it was much more conventional as Kenneth Hahnfield belted a long double to score three. Hahnfield continued to swing a hot bat, and ended up with five RBI's on the night.

One of the key points came by way of Hawk freshman pitcher Doug Skillicorn. He came in to relieve starter Andrew Blakey in the fourth with two men on and one out. He got through that inning unscathed and went on to shut down Durham the rest of the way.

Daniel Campos was the Hawks Player of the Game in the first match, while Kenneth Hahnfield was chosen in the second.

Humber will now advance to the Bronze Medal game on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. The game will be played at Labatt Park in London.
