GREAT WEEKEND FOR HAWKS BALL TEAMS IN NEW YORK

GREAT WEEKEND FOR HAWKS BALL TEAMS IN NEW YORK

COOPERSTOWN, New York: The Humber Hawks women's softball and men's baseball teams returned late Saturday night after a productive trip to New York.

The teams visited the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, before heading to Herkime, New York where each team played a doubleheader against the Herkimer College Generals. The Generals are a NJCAA Division III school, one that has a storied baseball heritage.

The women split, winning the first and dropping the nightcap. The men were swept, but both games were very competitive.

The coaching staffs were delighted with the trip, from both a competitive and team bonding point of view.

The Hawks' Men's Baseball team has returned home after their New York trip to play the NJCAA Herkimer Generals. The trips itinerary kicked off with a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. On Friday evening the team arrived in Cooperstown, NY where they had some time to explore the museum and surrounding memorabilia shops. Saturday morning the team departed for an exhibition double header in Herkimer, NY.

Game one saw the Hawks lose 9-4 to the Generals after a well played seven innings. The pitching staff held Herkimer's bats in check for most of the game allowing only a few scattered hits. Humber scored early, but was unable to answer back once the host team showed success swinging metal bats and putting the ball in play.

Game two started after a quick turnaround. Both teams were held scoreless until late in the game when Herkimer was able to squeeze across three runs by capitalizing on some defensive miscues. The Hawks responded with the threat of runners on in the seventh, but were unable to come through as the game ended in a 3-0 loss.

Overall the weekend showcased Humber's strong pitching effort against a tough metal bat team. The Hawks will wrap up their exhibition schedule with a double header on Wednesday Sept. 9th against Brock University, in St. Catherine's ON.
