HAWKS SNARE OCAA AWARDS THIS WEEK

TORONTO, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team and OCAA Championship MVP Brittany Vanderlaan were honoured as OCAA Team and Athlete of the week, respectively.

Humber second-year setter Brittany Vanderlaan (Smithville) was named the most valuable player at the OCAA women's volleyball championship. Vanderlaan helped lead the Hawks to their ninth consecutive OCAA title, as Humber defeated Algonquin, Fanshawe and Niagara, winning nine of 10 sets. Prior to the tournament, Vanderlaan was named a second-team league all-star.

The Humber Hawks won their ninth consecutive OCAA women's volleyball crown, sweeping division-rival Niagara in straight sets in the gold medal match. Humber lost only one set at the tournament, outlasting Fanshawe in the semi-finals in four sets. Humber (18-0) has won 109 straight matches in OCAA competition, and will look to win its first-ever national title later this month.
