HAWKS HOST MOHAWK WEDNESDAY AS REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team, who have already clinched the West Division title and direct entrance into the 2016 OCAA Championship, have three games remaining in the regular season. The Mohawk Mountaineers will make their way to the Humber Athletic Centre on Wednesday night, with a first serve set for 6:00 pm.

The host Hawks enter the game with a league best record on 15 win and no losses, while the visiting Mountaineers check in with a mark of 6 wins and 10 losses. Unfortunately for Mohawk, they will remain on the sideline when it comes to the OCAA playoffs, regardless of the outcome on Wednesday.

The two teams met earlier this season in Hamilton, and the Hawks left with a convincing 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21. On this day it was the usual suspects leading the Hawks in scoring. Thalia Hanniman and Alley Newman finished the match with 15 and 10 offensive points, respectively. Only one Mountaineer was able to get to 5 points on the day, this being Brittany Gingrich.

Humber has 6 players currently scoring above the 2 point per set mark, led by Hanniman's average of 4.6. Brynne Coleman returned after a year and a half absence and has added much clout to the offence, as she checks in with a mark of 3.4 pps.

Mohawk's Gingrich, mentioned above, and Kirsten Bialachowski are the only two Mountaineers in above 2 pps, with Bialachowski leading the way at 2.3 pps.

Sometimes the most dangerous teams are the ones that are out of contention, as they have nothing to lose and would relish knocking off a top playoff team. The Mountaineers recently into the nest of the second place Fanshawe Falcons and knocked them off 3-1.

The Hawks coaching staff are all too aware of this possible outcome, and will prepare the team accordingly.
