HANNIMAN DOMINATES IN RETURN AS HAWKS SWEEP REDEEMER

ANCASTER, ON: Thalia Hanniman, 2015 OCAA women's volleyball Player of the Year, returned to the line-up in Saturday's 3-0 (25-13,25-18,25-18) win over Redeemer and dominated the play by averaging almost 6 points per set. Hanniman, now averaging 4.65 points per set over the course of the season, demonstrated her on-floor supremacy by scoring with both front and back court attacks, along with her normal serving prowess.

With the win, the Hawks stayed perfect on the season with a 15-0 record. The host Royals dropped to 9-7, but still are solidly placed in a play-off spot.

The first set was a tight, ping pong affair through to the 15 point mark. It was at this point that veteran Brooke Kinnaird entered the game and ran off 9 straight points for a Hawks 25-13 set win.

The second set saw the Hawks run out to a lead and never look back. The host Royals scored a couple late, but the set was never in doubt. Of significance in this set, was Hawk's second year setter Brittany Vanderlaan setting the Hawks all-time assist mark of 342. She went on to finish with 26 assists, and now has a career mark of 354.

The third set mirrored the second, not only in play, but in the final score of 25-18 as well.

As mentioned above, Hanniman was the offensive star of the day, finishing with 17 offensive points. She easily outdistanced Curtis Straatsma, the OCAA all-time points record holder from Redeemer. Straatsma finish with 10 points. Other contributing Hawks was Devan O'Connor and Alley Newman, both with 8 points.

The Hawks will take to the court next on Wednesday night at the Humber Athletic Centre. Their opponent will be Mohawk, with a first serve slated for 6:00 pm
