ROAD WARRIOR HAWKS WIN ANOTHER ROAD FRIENDLY

Recap By: Ashleigh Darrach

PETERBOROUGH, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball took the win against the Trent Excaliburs in a four set pre-season match up on Wednesday October 7th.

Humber packed their bags and headed out to Peterborough for the 6pm game start.

Trent finished fourth last year after a disappointing loss in the OCAA bronze medal match.

The game started off on the wrong foot for Humber as they were lacking good serve receive. The passing was not allowing the team to capitalize on their offense, one of the Hawk's primary assets.

Trent and Humber were back and forth for the first 15 points until Humber took the lead and eventually the set (25-21).

The energy was not as high on the court as the team had hoped for as the match went on. Humber struggled to maintain a good lead as communication broke down.

"The intensity that we needed wasn't there in the first two sets, we still came out on top, but it could have been better play from us," said Thalia Hanniman, Hawks captain. The Hawks squeaked by again winning 25-21.

The third set was the rockiest for the Hawks as they went down nine straight points. After communication picked up and they started to play, Humber's Brooke Kinnaird served 4 straight balls, on game point for Trent. The Hawks fall 21-25.

After some words of wisdom from Coach Chris Wilkins, the Hawks came back with the intensity they were lacking all game, with great serve receive and stellar offense Humber kept Trent at an impressive score of 25-12.

"We were more consistent with serving and passing. In the other sets we weren't staying as a team and communicating," said Brittany Vanderlaan, setter for the Hawks. "We weren't playing up to our potential".

Humber's next game marks the start of their regular season on October 24 at Sheridan College.
