HAWKS HEAD NORTH AS REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN

HAWKS HEAD NORTH AS REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN

SUDBURY, ON: The West Division leading Humber Hawks will travel north this coming weekend for doubleheader action, with game one on Saturday versus Boreal and then finish up on Sunday at Cambrian.

From the outside looking in, these games are completely opposite with regards to what the Hawks may encounter.

On Saturday evening it is the powerhouse 13-0 Humber squad visiting the 0-13 Boreal Vipers. Although on home court, the Vipers will have to play their best game of the year to play even with the eight-time defending OCAA champion Hawks team. The two teams met earlier this year, with the home Hawks winning in comfortable fashion 25-8, 25-16, 25-11.

Sunday afternoon poses a much different scenario as the Hawks play the dangerous Cambrian Golden Shield. Cambrian returns to the court after an unsuccessful weekend of play, losing to two teams that are behind them in the standings. In total, the Golden Shield have lost four of the last five.

Cambrian is just a short step away from third place in the division, but see a similar backwards step that could take them out of playoff contention. At 7-6, they are tied with three teams, but see two other teams close enough to catch up and usurp the Golden Shield from a playoff spot. This adds up to eight teams vying for six post season spots. They will play the Sheridan Bruins the night before, in a game which could clear up, or muddy the standings.

Humber is getting healthier as the second half moves on. Devin O'Connor and Brynne Coleman are back from the injury list, and have had big scoring games upon their return. It also looks like OCAA All Star Kelsey Kovar could return shortly and add her aggressive pounding of balls to the mix.

The Hawks boast seven players averaging over two points per set, led by Player of the Year Thalia Hanniman and her mark of 4.5 pps. Veteran middle Alley Newman, who arguably is one of the top middles in the country, has upped her offensive games and checks in at 3.0 pps.

The first opponent, Boreal, has been unable to sustain any type of offensive game and averages just 5.7 offensive points per game as a team. Emile Goulet and Melanie Legere check in with identical marks of 1.2 pps.

The Golden Shield are led by Jillian Vallier and her offensive output to 2.8 pps. Not far behind are Sara Charlton and Kelsey Watson, who check in with marks of 2.6 and 2.5 pps, respectively.

After this trip is completed, the Hawks will have four games in February to complete the regular season, with two at home and the other two on the road.

Please note: Their will be no live streaming available for this contests.
