LAST MATCH OF THE SEASON AS NO.3 HAWKS HOST CONESTOGA

LAST MATCH OF THE SEASON AS NO.3 HAWKS HOST CONESTOGA

ETOBICOKE, ON: The CCAA's third-ranked program will be playing their final match at the Humber Athletic Centre Wednesday night when the Conestoga Condors (2-15, 9th West) come to Etobicoke.

The Hawks (17-0, 1st West) have already locked up the top seed in the west division and are playing their final tune-up match before heading to Canadore College for the provincial tournament February 25-27.  The Hawks are hopeful of winning their ninth consecutive OCAA title and 13th overall in program history.

The Condors come into this match on a two game losing streak, with their most recent loss coming in straight sets on the road against the Niagara Knights.  So far this season, Conestoga picked up their two victories over Boreal College (0-18, 10th West).

Humber is coming off a 3-0 win of Fanshawe (12-6, 2nd West), their 14th victory of the season in straight sets.  The Hawks will also be looking to add to their OCAA best 87th consecutive wins at home, a streak that nearly spans a full decade.

In their last eight matchups, the Hawks are a dominant 8-0 over Conestoga, only dropping two sets over that time.  Their last match came earlier this season in Kitchener and Humber walked away with a 3-0 victory.  Fourth-year middle Alley Newman, playing in her hometown, finished with a season-high 15 points in the win.  Madisson McKellar, the leading scorer for Conestoga, finished with a team-high 9 points in the loss.

Wednesday's match against Conestoga will bring an end to Humber's regular season, which unfortunately will be the last game five Hawks will ever play at "the nest".  Prior to the match, the Hawks will be honouring the following student-athletes:

Thalia Hanniman               Deborah Mitchell
Brooke Kinnaird               Kelsey Korvar

Also, long-time assistant coach Heather Vandenbrink will be head coach in honour of her last home match with the Hawks.
