UNDERMANNED HAWKS USE DEPTH TO WIN HOME OPENER

The women's volleyball team had their home opener on Thursday against the Redeemer Royals, whom they swept 3-0.

At their last practice, the Hawks lost two of their staters due to injuries and had to play with players in positions that they weren't used to. This made their victory that much more rewarding.

Both teams had won their first games prior to this matchup in a tie breaker set (3-2).

The game started very back and forth for the two with no more than a few points given to either side at a time. A serving run by Thalia Hanniman put the Hawks ahead and they took the first set 25-23.

The second set was dictated by tough serving for the Hawks and they managed to keep the Royals under 10 points winning 25-9.

"We had a sense of control and a sense of awareness," said alley Newman, middle for the Hawks' "a great sense of chemistry".

The third set for he Hawks looked like it was going to be a more difficult one, as it was very back and forth.  Both teams were rallying and digging up balls to continue the play. The Hawks prevailed at the end 25-22.

Humber will play Conestoga this upcoming Wednesday.
