HAWKS MAKE FIRST TRIP TO CCAA TITLE GAME

WINDSOR, ON: The no. 2 Humber Hawks have a chance to etch their names in basketball history Saturday night when they play the no. 4 Holland Hurricanes (ACAA) in the 2016 CCAA National Championship.  Since the championship began in 1978, no OCAA program has ever taken home the gold medal.

The Holland Hurricanes reached the championship after defeating the defending champions no. 5 Nomades de Montmorency (RSEQ) in their quarter-final matchup.  Then in the semi-finals, the Hurricanes pulled off the upset with a 79-64 victory over no. 1 Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy (RSEQ) to advance to their first ever championship final.

The Hawks reached their first ever championship by defeating the two top programs from Alberta.  In the quarter-finals, Humber cruised to a 83-47 win over no. 7 St. Mary's (ACAC), then defeated the no. 3 NAIT Ooks (ACAC) 78-58 in the semi-finals.

Three All-Canadians will be featured in this game, with two playing for Holland College.  Jazlin Barker, a third-year guard, finished third in the ACAC in scoring (15.3 ppg) and first in assists (96).  Jenea Barrett, a fifth-year forward, led the league in scoring after averaging 18.1 ppg.

The two highest scoring teams in the tournament will meet in this final, as Humber has averaged 80.5 points per game while Holland has averaged 83.  Defence may be the deciding factor in this game, as Humber has only allowed 52.5 ppg while Holland has allowed 71 ppg.

Last season, these two programs played in the national bronze game, with the Hurricanes winning their first ever CCAA medal after a 61-54 win.

For the first time in ten years, a program from the RSEQ will not win the national championship.

Game time is set for 8:30pm EST and can be streamed live here.
