HAWKS MAKE HISTORY - 2016 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

HAWKS MAKE HISTORY - 2016 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

WINDSOR, ON: In what may have been the most incredible finish in national championship history, Hawks veteran Ruth Holland hit a buzzer beating 3-pointer to vault the Hawks to a 50-49 win over the Holland Hurricanes, giving the Hawks their first ever CCAA National title.

Humber, down 6 points with just seconds remaining, came up with stop after stop to put them in a position to tie or win the game. With just 8.9 seconds left, Holland College was up by two and at the line shooting two free throws. They missed both. Ceejay Nofuente brought the ball down the floor and into the key, before kicking it out to Ruth Holland for the heroics.

As expected, Ruth Holland was named as the Humber Player of the Game.

Jillian Semple was selected as a First Team Championship All-Star, and Ceejay Nofuente was the Championship MVP.

Not only is this the first CCAA National title and medal for the Humber Hawks, it is the first national championship EVER by any OCAA women's team in any of the three main team sports of soccer, basketball and volleyball.

Humber completed the perfect season, going 18-0 in regular season play, 3-0 in the OCAA playoffs and then 3-0 at nationals.

Truly, a historic night!
