HAWKS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH WIN OVER SHERIDAN
BRAMPTON, ON: As the last remaining unbeaten team in the OCAA west division, the Humber Hawks women's basketball team went on the road Thursday evening to play the Sheridan Bruins. Behind a tough defence and aggressive offence, the Hawks cruised to an easy 74-38 victory to improve to 7-0 on the season.
"We played an up-tempo game and found the seams of their defence with accurate passing and smart dribble drives to the net," said fifth-year head coach Ajay Sharma. "We defended very well and forced Sheridan into very tough shots."
Fifth-year shooting guard Mary Asare filled the stat sheet in the victory, recording a season-high 18 points with two boards, four assists, two steals, and a block. Markham native Llyandra Kerr recorded her second double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and ten rebounds.
"Asare and Kerr played a fantastic high-low game," said second-year assistant coach and Humber alumnus Aycha Hamaoui. "We implemented a tough game plan and they went out and executed like we practiced."
Kerr was also tasked with having to defend Sheridan's leading scorer Samantha Lovat, who was averaging 14.6 points-per-game in her last three contests. Kerr's smothering defence kept Lovat at bay, as she finished with a season low four points in almost 40 minutes of play.
The Hawks will now shift their focus to the 4-1 Niagara Knights, the fifth ranked team in the OCAA. The Knights will be visiting the Humber Athletic Centre on Wednesday, November 25 with tip-off scheduled for 6:00pm.
