By: Natalie Stoberman

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's basketball team (15-0, 1st West) wrapped up a weekend home stand with an 85-48 victory over the Lambton Lions (6-7, 6th West). The Hawks received 16 points from centre Jillian Semple (Etobicoke) and forward Llyandra Kerr (Markham).  Two keys to today's victory easily stood out in the box score: Humber's passing game was far superior, finishing with 24 more assists than Lambton.  The Hawks tough defence was also able to score 21 points off turnovers.

The Hawks went to work on an 8-0 run in the first minute and a half of the game. Guard Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) nailed a three pointer in the corner that opened up the scoring and then it was bucket after bucket for the Hawks as they ran up the score and kept the Lions off the board for half of the frame. Nofuente poured in 11 points for the Hawks to take a 28-9 lead.

It was the same story in the second quarter; the Lions only managed to score three points in six minutes while Humber maintained total control of the game. Kerr was a menace in the paint while she made three baskets in traffic with ease. Semple and Kerr led the team with 12 points each by half time and Humber had a 49-22 lead.

The Hawks remained focused on keeping their massive lead. The third quarter saw the Hawks speed up the game's tempo to leave the Lions in the dust to trail 71-32. The Hawks saw most of the bench contribute in the final frame with 29 total bench points in the game. Forward Haeven Durrant came into the game and put up 10 points, six boards on 5-of-7 shooting from the field in 16 minutes. The Hawks coasted to the 85-48 win.

Humber will hit the road to take on the Redeemer Royals (5-9, 7th West) on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.
