ETOBICOKE, ON: Winning was the only thing on their minds as the undefeated women's basketball team battled the Fanshawe Falcons on the court tonight. The team maintained their perfect season with a very close 60-57 win.
The back and forth first quarter was a tense start for both teams. With 5 lead changes, the game was really up for grabs. Poor shooting by Humber led to a Fanshawe 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Out of 23 shot attempts the Hawks managed only 5 baskets. Humber's Jill Semple seemed to carry the team through the quarter single handedly earning the team 8 of its 10 points.
Tensions were high as the game drew to a close. The Hawks desperate to add to their 26 game winning streak, and the Falcons determined to beat the last undefeated team in the league. The tension could be cut with a knife as Fanshawe worked swiftly to whittle away the gap in scores.
Up next for the Hawks are two away games against Cambrian College on January 23rd and 24th.
The Hawks will be on the home court again January 30th in a match against St. Clair. Tip-off is scheduled at 4pm, and will take place at the Humber Athletics Centre.
