HAWKS PREPARE TO DO BATTLE WITH KNIGHTS

ETOBICOKE, ON: Once again, the Humber College women's basketball program will be facing off against one of the province's top teams when the Niagara Knights come to town on Wednesday, November 25.  The Hawks have now strung together 20 consecutive OCAA regular season wins, with their last loss coming from St. Clair in November of last year.

The Knights come into this game with a 4-2 record and are currently sitting in fourth place in the OCAA west division.  Niagara's two losses have come at the hands of St. Clair and Fanshawe, the second and third ranked teams in the OCAA.

Two of the province's best scorer's will be featured in this game as Humber's Llyandra Kerr is currently ranked 13th in the OCAA averaging 14.3 points-per-game, while Niagara's Courtney McPherson ranks 16th averaging 13.3. McPherson is the reigning OCAA rookie of the year and has recorded three double-doubles this season.  Kerr has scored in double figures six times this season, while recording two double-doubles of her own.

Coming off a loss to the Fanshawe Falcons, Niagara will be looking to upset the CCAA's second ranked program.  So far the Knights have been a better road team than home team and sitting with a perfect 3-0 record away from the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

Over the years, Humber basketball has been quite dominant against Niagara.  Dating back to 1979, the Hawks own a 27-9 overall record against the Knights, including an impressive 15-3 record when playing at home.  The last time these two teams met at the Humber Athletic Centre, the Hawks came away with a 68-47 victory.  Natalie Hagopian led the way offensively for the Hawks, recording a game-high 15 points while Toronto native Aleena Domingo finished with 14 points and seven boards.  For the Knights, Mary Ingribelli finished the game with a season-high 15 points in the loss.

The Hawks are coming off a dominant win over the Sheridan Bruins, where gritty defence led the way.  The Hawks held the Bruins to 12 first-half points and received impressive performances from their veterans.  Fifth-year shooting guard Mary Asare filled the stat sheet in the victory, recording a season-high 18 points with two boards, four assists, two steals, and a block.  Markham native Llyandra Kerr recorded her second double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and ten rebounds.
