HAWKS CHASE HISTORY IN NATIONAL SEMI-FINAL TONIGHT

HAWKS CHASE HISTORY IN NATIONAL SEMI-FINAL TONIGHT

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AL: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team have never advanced to the CCAA National Championship Gold Medal game, but will have that opportunity after winning a five-set thriller in the quarter-final over FX Garneau on Thursday night.

The battle they face is a huge one, as the opponent is the number one ranked Douglas Royals from the PACWEST Conference (BC). Humber has faced a few uphill battles this year, which includes coming from behind 2-0 down on three occasions to secure wins when the dust settled after five sets. So if a battle is needed, they will certainly join in.

As mentioned above, Humber needed five sets to knock of FX Garneau of the RESQ (Qc). After dropping the first two sets, the Hawks found their groove and dominated the next two, and then withheld a furious Elans comeback to secure the final set 15-13 and the match 3-2.

Douglas had trouble with the hosts from Grande Prairie. They needed to come from behind in the twenties to win the first set, and then quickly dropped the next one to have the match tied at one. The Royals did find their groove in the next two set wins, and never trailed in either.

Obviously, the two teams have not met, but they are both ranked high in the national rankings. Douglas came in at number one, while Humber secured the number three spot for much of the year.

Game time from the GPRC Athletic Centre is 10:00 pm (EST).

The winner will move on to the gold game on Saturday evening, while the loser will need a win on Saturday morning to advance to the bronze game on Saturday afternoon.
