HAWKS ADVANCE TO OCAA FINAL 8 BY WAY OF 3-0 WIN OVER LA CITE

By Nick Suddes

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks Women's Volleyball team (18-0, 1st West) will continue their pursuit for an 11th straight OCAA Gold Medal, after defeating the visiting La Cite Coyotes (4-14, 8th East) Saturday afternoon at the Humber North Campus Gym. In a rare OCAA crossover playoff matchup for the Hawks they won the match convincingly in straight sets (25-8, 25-9, 25-11) to advance to their 26th straight OCAA Championship Tournament.

The Hawks looked to be in top form, using the rare matchup with La Cite to get twelve different Humber players on the floor as they prepare to head to Centennial College this Thursday, February 22 for the three-day OCAA Championship.

Humber came out swinging from the first serve, taking the lead and holding it outright for the entire match with the Coyotes. Visiting La Cite was only able to manage nine kills the entire match, unable to hang with the Hawks on either end.

For their part Humber never let up on the visiting Coyotes, committing just six errors, serving 16 aces as a team, and finishing their kills at a near 50%.

Julia Watson and Danielle Miles were the standouts for Humber in the match. Watson was a force in this one collecting all eight of her points of kills putting them down at a 78% clip. Miles finished with team-high nine points (six kills, three aces).

The Hawks will now head to the OCAA Championship Tournament as the #1 seed, a familiar scenario for the OCAA powerhouse. The tournament kicks of at 1:00 pm on Thursday with Humber Match still to be determined.
