HAWKS ROLL TO EASY STRAIGHT SET OVER CONESTOGA AT HOME

Story by: Bobby Mihalik

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team returned home and continued their winning ways Wednesday night, facing off against the Conestoga Condors and improving to 5-0 on the season with a textbook home win in three straight sets.

The Hawks began the game by sprinting out of the gates, roaring to a 9-1 lead early in the first set before cruising to win it 25-6. The dominating first set was highlighted by two separate Hawks runs of seven straight points.

The second set proved to be more contested, as Conestoga overcame their slow start to keep pace with the Hawks. After Conestoga scored the first point, Humber retook the lead for the remainder of the set, though it remained close, with the Condors coming within a point of Humber, 11-10, partway into the set. Ultimately, while the visiting team would triple their score from the first set, Humber would win it with a 25-18 score.

Conestoga struck quickly in the third set, jumping out to a 5-3 early lead. Humber would soon retake the lead, however, with a six-point run on the back of four straight aces from Jasmine Lougheed. The Condors would fight valiantly to stay in the game the rest of the way but never truly recovered, and the Hawks capped off the night with a 25-16 third set victory, winning the match 3-0.

Jasmine Lougheed led the Hawks with 13 points, with 6 kills, 5 serving aces, and 2 blocks. Brynne Coleman, Breanna Golding, and Julia Watson also left their marks with 8 points each, including 8 kills for both Coleman and Watson.

Alex Bartman was named the Hawks Nation Player of the Game after the win.

With the loss, Conestoga drops to 1-5. Up next for the Hawks is a road matchup with the Sheridan Bruins Saturday at 1:00pm.
