LAST TIME OUT

In a rematch of Humber's toughest match to date, it was the hometown Hawks that came away victorious in three very hotly contested sets (25-16, 25-20, 29-27). Although the Hawks won in three, all the set were close in the mid-teens. The third set went extra's, but only when the visitors went on a solid run late, and in fact, were in a position to close out the set by holding a 26-25 edge. Three Humber players were in double figures, led by Jasmine Lougheed and her 12 points (9K, 3B).

LAST TIME OUT VS REDEEMER

The two teams met at Humber to open the 2017/18 season. Only one of the three sets were competitive, with Humber winning the opening set 25-15 and the third 25-14. The middle stanza was a more respectful 25-21. Brynne Spence-Coleman was the only player on both teams to hit for double digits, finishing with 11 points (7K, 4A).

SCOUTING REDEEMER

  • The Royals have been unable to scratch out a win over Humber in regular season play, and currently sit with a mark of 0-24 against the Hawks. They did force a fifth and deciding set in a 3-2 loss during the 2013 season
  • With the new expanded playoff system in place, Redeemer, even at 3-11, sits in the final playoff spot for teams in the West Division, and would have to travel for a cross-over playoff game in a couple of weeks
  • Historically, as a team, the Royals have always been strong on the block. This year is no exception, as they rank third in the league in blocks (105) and blocks per set average (2.14).
  • Beyond the high ranking in blocks, they fall well out of the top ten in all other significant statistical categories across the league
  • They have four players above the 2.0 points per set mark, but just barely above. Abby Sluys leads the way with an average of 2.7 pps
  • Two setters have shared the duties. Lexi Nieman has registered 176 assists, while Maria VanVark checks in with 146

HAWK NOTES

  • With the win over Mohawk at home on Friday night, the Hawks victory roll in OCAA league and playoff games has now reached 143 games
  • Only twice in the 13 games played has Humber dropped a set in league play this year
  • Among the leaders in all team categories, Humber tops out in kills percentage (.292) and aces per set (3.31)
  • Three Hawks check in with marks above 3.1 pps, led by Breanna Golding's average of 4.3. Veteran Brynne Spence-Coleman is knocking on the door, with an ever increasing mark of 2.8 pps
  • Celine Blanchette has upped her assist total with a 29-assist performance on Friday, and she now sits at 259. Alex Bartman is prepared to return from injury, and checks inn 123 in just 21 sets played

HISTORY WATCH

  • Chris Wilkins all-time coaching wins mark continues to rise with every win, and it now sits at 330
  • Kyla Wilkins has moved up to number three on the Hawks all-time digs list, and looks like she may be able to move up to first or second with a solid performance in the remaining games
