HAWKS ON HOME TURF IN SEARCH OF OCAA GOLD

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's soccer team will take to the pitch on the friendly confines of Centennial Park Stadium in the 2015 OCAA Provincial Men's Soccer Championships. The event begins on Wednesday night with the Annual Awards Banquet, and then play will kick-off on Thursday morning and run through until the Gold Medal game on Saturday afternoon.

Humber will open their OCAA quest on Thursday afternoon in a tilt with Fleming College of Peterborough. The Hawks advanced directly to the championships by way of their Central Division crown, while the Knights won a sudden-death cross-over game on the road versus St. Clair.

The winner of this game will advance to the championship semi-finals on Friday at 3:30 pm, and play the winner of the Niagara/Fanshawe game. A loss would propel the Hawks to the consolation semi-final at 9:30 am on Friday morning.

The game at hand will be a hotly contested affair, as these two teams have seen each other on a number occasions in the play-offs lately. Humber has won all of these contests previously, but to win again they will have to do what they have done all year and that is score early and set the tone then rest of the way. Team discipline on each side is paramount.

Humber checks in with an undefeated record of 9-0-1. Fleming, the fourth place team from the East Division, entered the play-offs with a sub .500 record of 3-4-3.

The Hawks led all of OCAA soccer with 42 goals for, while Fleming had a respectable 17 goals in 10 games, but allowed five more than they scored.

Humber captured the silver medal last season, and that was after back-to-back National Championship winning years. The last time the Knights stepped upon the podium was for a bronze medal in the 1987.
