BATTLE OF LAST TWO CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPS ON TUESDAY

ETOBICOKE, Ontario: The Humber Hawks and Sheridan Bruins, who have combined to win the last three CCAA National Men's Soccer Championships, will play for the first time this season as part of the Hawks home opener in their new digs at Centennial Park. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 pm.

The season is only two games in for each squad, with Sheridan sitting at one win and one loss, while the Hawks check in with a 2-0 record. The visiting Bruins knocked off the new kids on the block, the University of Toronto Eagles, and then fell at home to Niagara. Humber knocked off this same Niagara team in Welland, and then rolled to a 5-2 win on Sunday at Seneca.

The two teams met only once last year, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. When the play-offs came, the teams were on separate sides of the bracket, with Humber taking silver and Sheridan winning the bronze. Sheridan advanced to the CCAA championships as the host, and went on to win the title on their home field.

Joshua Persaud scored Sheridan's only goal of the season, as they were shut out by Niagara. The Bruins have been known to be a very defensively sound club, one that takes advantage of the offensive chances it gets. And it looks like it is much of the same this year.

Humber looks to be explosive, as the five goal outburst over a sound Seneca club indicated on Sunday. Defensively, they are as sound as ever, and have added former CCAA Championship MVP Keeper Eugenio Garro.

Hawks Striker Michael Aigbokie, who returned to the lineup after being away for a number of years, has his eyes set on the Humber all-time scoring record of thirty five goals (Jesse Calabro – 97/01). In just two years he has recorded twenty five goals, and with his two strikes in the Seneca game is just eight away from tying, and nine from setting the new mark. When he returned after Christmas last year, he led the Hawks to the OCAA Indoor Soccer title, and was named MVP.
