HAWKS SCORE TWO LATE TO CLAIM CENTRAL CROWN

OAKVILLE, ON: It was clinching day for the Humber Hawks Men's soccer team who took on the Sheridan Bruins in a thriller.

The Hawks and Bruins met for the second time this season Saturday afternoon. The first match up was played at the home of the Hawks, where they took a close one by a score of 1-0. This game was yet another close one, which featured a little bit of everything.

The first half, much like the women's game which took place prior to this one, featured some pretty bizarre weather conditions. Both teams battled a bit of rain and snow but unlike the women's game, didn't receive any sunshine.

The game was a close one. Both teams moving the ball and playing with a lot of urgency. It was evident early on that both sides were going to give it everything they possibly had.

The Bruins jumped out to a quick start, causing issues for the Hawks. But Humber battled and were able to jump ahead right before half thanks to a goal from rookie striker Sonan Askndar.

The temperature continued to drop after half time but it just made both teams play a little harder. The Bruins yet again had a great start to the half but Humber was able to hold off the pressure. The Hawks were able to muster up a few chances to widen their lead but were unable to beat Sheridan's goalkeeper.

Then momentum shifted after the Bruins were awarded a penalty kick. They stepped up and took the kick but Humber goalkeeper Eugenio Garro made a diving save to his left. Unfortunately for the Hawks the rebound fell right back to the kick taker and he was able to slot home the rebound.

It wasn't long after that the Bruins took the lead off a questionable non-call on an offside. They slotted home the rebound off a mad scramble in the box to take a 2-1 lead.

Garro shortly after made two big diving saves to keep the Hawks in the game, which in the end paid off.

The Hawks came close to equalising off a free kick from Josh Paredes-Procter, but it barely missed just grazing the outside of the post.

However in the 90th minute Hawks rookie striker Luca Baldassarre equalised for the Hawks. The drama didn't end there. Less than one minute later the ball fell to Baldassarre yet again who made no mistake giving Humber a 3-2 lead in the dying moments.

The Hawks were able to hold off a last second push from Sheridan, and took this game by a score of 3-2. With the win, Humber officially clinches top spot in the central division.

The Hawks swept the two game series against their biggest rivals the Bruins this season. Both games were nail biters and went down to the very end.

In a total of four games, the two goals allowed were the first Humber has allowed when Garro was in goal this season. He is now 4-0 in goal this season.

The Hawks showed once again how great a team they were battling back and taking this one. They were disciplined and played until the final whistle. Every player who came into this game played a solid part in the victory. This team battles for each other. They aren't just a team, they are family.

The Hawks regular season finale before heading to the Provincial Championships is this Tuesday against the George Brown Huskies. Kick off is at 4:30 p.m.
