LAST TIME OUT VS MOHAWK

In their first and only meeting of the season, it was the visiting Mountaineers that swept away the Hawks in three straight (25-21, 25-20, 25-18). Even with league leading scorer Clayton Blanchette in the line-up, Humber produced little or no offence on the night. Blanchette led the Hawks with 10 points, 7 coming via the kill, in one of his lowest scoring nights on the season. Eric Girard and Trevor McLaughlin led Mohawk on the night, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

SCOUTING MOHAWK

  • The Mountaineers only losses have come against the first (Fanshawe) and third place team (Redeemer) in the tough West Division
  • Mohawk sits very comfortably among the league leaders in team statistics, including first in kills per set (13.22) and assists per set (12.33)
  • Trevor McLaughlin, at 4.2 pps, leads a fierce threesome of players that check in with offensive averages of 3.7 points per set or better. They boast another threesome that averages above the 2.1 mark
  • Chris Spack leads the team in assists (427), and is first in the league in assists per set (11.54)

HAWK NOTES

  • Humber is 31-18 all-time versus Mohawk
  • The Hawks clinched fourth spot in the West and the opportunity to host a playoff crossover game this Saturday night at the Humber Athletic Centre
  • They are among the leaders in many statistical category, placing from fourth to eighth in many of the key offensive area
  • Clayton Blanchette looks like a lock to capture the OCAA scoring crown, as he leads his closest competitor by well over a point per set, with one game to go. He just entered the exclusive 300/300 club (369 points/312 kills)
  • Alex Gibbs has been a constant offensive threat as well, and he checks in with an average of 3.7 pps
  • Setter Adam Kinoshita has recorded 476 assists and currently ranks fifth in the league with an average of 8.81 assists per set

RECORD WATCH

  • With a game yet to play in the regular season, Humber Hawks second year outside hitter Clayton Blanchette (St. Catherines) has already registered one on the greatest seasons in Hawk and OCAA history. With 23 kills and 27 points in a playoff clinching win on Friday night, he has joined the exclusive 300/300 club. To date, he has 312 kills and a point total of 369.

To put things more into perspective, Blanchette has moved up to number two in the best single season ever produced by a Humber Hawk. The player he has usurped in two of the best single season marks is the legendary Terrel Bramwell. Bramwell held the top three marks, but now Blanchette has moved to number two and has an outside chance of taking over one or both of the records. He is second in kills (332 to 312) and points (389 to 369).

In less than two years in the OCAA, he has already eclipsed the 500 point mark and will move into the top five in Hawks history early next season. The player he will overtake needed four full seasons to get to his mark of 622 points.

He is now a lock to win the OCAA scoring title. His average of 5.86 points per set easily outdistances his closest competitor by over a point a set. He leads the entire OCAA in kills (312), kills per set (4.95) service aces (39) and service aces per set (.62).

  • Head Head Coach Wayne Wilkins currently sits in second place of all-time Hawk coaching wins with 313 victories, and only trails the overall leader Mike Katz (318) by six.
