HAWKS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT MATCH AFTER STRONG START

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team (9-7, 4th West) fell in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-11) to the red hot Fanshawe Falcons (14-1, 1st West) Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons who are the no.1 ranked team in the country, put the Hawks to the test from the get go. From the first serve to match point, the Falcons proved why they are the top team.

Humber was able to keep the sets close up until the end of the second set. That was when the Falcons went on a tear for the remainder of the game.

Throughout the game Humber did a good job setting themselves up at the net, but it was the Falcons ability to keep plays alive and great defence which pushed their team to victory.

Humber's Clayton Blanchette (St. Catharines) who is the OCAA's leading scorer finished with a team-high eight points (seven kills, one block). The team's second leading scorer was Alex Gibbs (Calgary) who finished with seven points from seven kills.

Fanshawe's James Jackson (London), finished with a game-high 14 points (12 kills, two aces) in the win. He is second behind Blanchette for points in the OCAA.

Prior to the game, Humber fifth-year student-athlete Michael Majcen (Scarborough) was honoured for his time spent with the Hawks. He finished the game with four points on four kills.

The Hawks next game is Feb. 10, when they travel to take on the Conestoga Condors.
