MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE; FALL TO SAINTS 3-0

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks (5-3, 3RD West) played three close sets but it wasn't enough as the team dropped their third match in a row, this time to the St. Clair Saints (4-5, 4th West). In fact, after winning the first set at Fanshawe a week ago, Humber has lost nine consecutive sets.

After beginning the season 5-0, the Hawks have struggled to keep up their winning ways and failed to take advantage of St. Clair on Sunday, a team below them in the standings.

The Hawks and Saints were neck-and-neck in every set throughout the match with each one ending with a final score of 25-22.

Leading the Hawks on the afternoon was two of their top players this season in Clayton Blanchette (St. Catharines) and Alex Gibbs (Calgary).

Second-year outside hitter Blanchette, who is amongst the OCAA leaders in points this season, finished Sunday's match with 11 points (10 kills, one ace).

Gibbs finished the match with 11 points as well (eight kills, two aces, one block).

This game was an opportunity to help create some separation in the standings for the Hawks, but now with their third straight loss they remain in a tight race with the remainder of the league.

The team will now turn their sights to this Wednesday when they travel to Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals in yet another important match. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
